NPP trains 300,000 for door-to-door campaign

THE New Patriotic Party (NPP) has trained 300,000 people as its core grass roots members to undertake door-to-door campaign as part of its strategy to register a landslide victory in the 2008 general election.
The strategy also includes weekly massive activities in various parts of the country, such as the recent Kasoa rally, coupled with the criss-crossing of the length and breadth of the nation by its flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo.
According to the National Organiser of the NPP, Lord Oblitey Commey, the 300,000 trained people were made up of 15 polling station executives from the 22,000 polling stations in the country.
“Apart from the campaign work, some will manage the polling stations as the party’s executives, while others will man the various registration centres during the forthcoming registration exercise,” he explained.
He said as part of the party’s preparations for the registration exercise, all those designated to represent the party at various polling stations during the exercise were undergoing refresher courses before the exercise began.
Hitherto, the party had only five polling station executives but this had been increased to 15.
Lord Commey was briefing the media in Accra on the next weekly national activity, which is termed, “Nana Gives Praises to God”. It is a Gospel show scheduled for the Jubilee Park in Kumasi at 5.00 p.m. on Sunday.
He said the show was intended to give praise to the Almighty God for all that He had done for the NPP, both in opposition and in government, and pray for a landslide victory in the 2008 elections to continue the good work of the Kufuor Administration.
Lord Commey noted that most gospel artistes had indicated their readiness to voluntarily be part of the show which was free and open to all party faithful and the general public.
“This is part of a comprehensive multi-system campaign strategic approach to utilise every available space, advantage and time to ensure that Nana Akufo-Addo’s good message was made available to all Ghanaians,” he added.
He said just after the Gospel rock show, the National Chairman of the NPP, Mr Peter Mac Manu, would, on Monday, hold a media encounter in Kumasi as part of the 16th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the NPP.
As part of the anniversary, the national organiser said, all constituencies would hold various activities in commemoration of the celebration but all geared towards mobilising support for the flag bearer.
