ALL set for NPP Congress

All is set for the 16th Annual Delegates Conference of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) scheduled for the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi from Friday, August 15 to Sunday August 17.
Currently, the twin city is awashed with NPP colours of red, blue and white while at the same time there is an acute shortage of hotel accommodation in anticipation of the congress.
The highest point of the conference will be the introduction of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the running mate, to the party’s flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, to the delegates and the party in general.
All the street corners have been whitewashed, overgrown grasses and trees have been pruned to size, awaiting the arrival of the more than 1500 delegates comprising five delegates from each constituency and the party's foreign branches, 500 special guests and 1,000 observers are expected to attend the conference at the Sekondi College in Sekondi.
Most supporters of the party are waiting anxiously to catch a glimpse of Dr Bawumia, who will be riding alongside the flag bearer through some principal streets of the metropolis.
Other dignitaries expected to attend the congress include, President J.A. Kufuor, his Vice, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, ministers of state and Members of Parliament (MPs).
The introduction of Dr Bawumiah, who was named by the flag bearer at midnight on Thursday will attract a large number of party faithful, from both within and around the Sekondi-Takoradi and its surroundings as well as many media houses.
The Saturday congress would be opened by the National Chairman of the party, Mr Peter Mac Manu, to be followed by speeches from ministers of Health, Education, Youth and Sports, Employment and Parliament on the successes chalked up by the Kufuor Administration.
President Kufuor would then explain to the party faithful the real meaning of the party’s slogan “We are moving forward”
After about an hour’s refreshment, the General Secretary of the party, Nana Ohene Ntow, will present his report to congress after which the Chairman of the manifesto committee, Dr Akoto, will present the manifesto to the congress for corrections and adaptation as a working document.
On Sunday, the party will hold an interfaith church service to offer thanks and ask for his blessing in the electioneering at the conference grounds, after which Nana Akufo Addo will introduce Dr Bawumiah.
In the afternoon at the Takoradi Polytechnic football park, President Kufuor, Alhaji Aliu Mahama MPs for the Sekondi and Takoradi, Papa Owusu Ankomah and Mrs Gladys Asmah, respectively would in turns address what party Chairman, Mr Mac Manu, described “mammoth rally”.
To climax the occasion, Dr Bawumiah would be introduced by Nana Akufo Addo and the two would address the rally.
Other side attractions at the congress will be a gospel rock show, dubbed “Nana Goes Praise” at the congress grounds.
Apart from adequate security which will be put in place to ensure an incident free conference as well as contain miscreants who would want to take advantage of the huge crowd to steal, Zoom Lion will be at hand to provide around the clock cleaning services.
At the Takoradi Polytechnic Park , where the mammoth rally and the gospel show would be held, the stage have been mounted with giant public address systems at every corner.
Roads in the metropolis that normally had potholes are being filled.
Streetlights have been fixed, and each one in the metropolis has the NPP flag tied to it.
