‘CPP to put Ghanaians at centre of opportunity’

DR Paa Kwesi Nduom, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) presidential hopeful, has said a CPP administration will put Ghanaians at the centre of opportunity in both private and public sectors.
He said it was the job of the government to prepare its people and provide them with the requisite capital and experience to be able to build and own their industries in order to generate employment and prosperity for the nation.
Dr Nduom, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirim, was addressing executive members of the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) as part of series of presidential interactions with the association in Accra on Tuesday.
The move, he said, would put the local businessmen and women in a good stead to add value to the nation’s raw materials, and also be in a good position to own greater shares in any business concerns that might be privatised.
He told the captains of industries that no country had made any strides on the back of exporting raw materials or making foreigners majority shareholders in local industries.
Touching on energy, which was one of the most important resource for employers, Dr Nduom, who was a former Energy Minister, pledged that it would receive a critical attention and urgency, under the best local experts, with the personal support from the President.
On the oil and gas found, “we want Ghanaians to have shares in ownership, so that profits can remain in Ghana. We want Ghanaian professional to be in the forefront of the provision of services for the oil sector”.
Dr Nduom cautioned that the neglected nature of gold mining communities must serve as a great lesson, so that the oil found and the communities adjoining the oil fields were also not neglected.
He said a CPP government would establish petrochemical industry and expand the Tema Oil Refinery to add value to the produce for the benefit of the country.
To ensure that the public sector was efficient and effective to support the private sector for accelerated development, a Ministry of Public Sector would be established and charged to deliver on its mandate.
He promised to lead an inclusive government, because his experience as a CPP person in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration had given him the strength and the ability to reach out to other political party members to find common grounds in solving national issues.
